Example
The catch-up contribution lets those 50 and older put in more each year, and investing that extra amount for a couple of decades adds up through compounding.

Planning cue
Use the output as a scenario test rather than a promise. Small input changes can materially change the result.
Uses 2025 limits. The projected value assumes level annual contributions and a constant return, which markets will not deliver exactly.
How it works
What the result is showing you
These sections explain what the calculator measures, which assumptions matter most, and where the number can be misleading.
Standard and catch-up limits
For 2025 the standard IRA contribution limit is $7,000, with an additional $1,000 catch-up for those 50 or older. These caps can change with inflation, so confirm the current year's figure.
Roth versus Traditional
The contribution limit is shared across all your IRAs, not per account. Whether you use Roth or Traditional changes when you pay tax, not how much you can put in.
Why start the contribution early
The contribution limit is fixed each year and you cannot make it up later. Investing the allowed amount consistently, and early, lets compounding do the most work.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions people ask most about this calculator.
Is the limit per IRA or across all my IRAs?
It is across all of your IRAs combined. Contributing $7,000 to one IRA and another $7,000 to a second IRA in the same year would exceed the limit.
What is the catch-up contribution?
If you are 50 or older, you may add an extra amount on top of the standard limit. For 2025 that catch-up is $1,000, raising the total to $8,000.
